Genre EssayHave you even seen the movie Taken? Did you know that the reasoning behind kidnapping was to put drug the young girl so she wouldn’t know what’s happening to her while she is being auctioned off? For some slavery might be a thing they only see in the history books that they had at school but for others it’s their everyday life. Human trafficking is one of the most untalked about and unnoticed topics. Human trafficking is wrong, people need to be more aware and I plan on explaining how females are most likely to be taken over men, the laws that we have against human trafficking and how to help the ones that can’t help themselves.
Human trafficking also known as “modern day slavery” it’s a crime that goes unnoticed by many. The majority of people don’t believe anything like this could happen to them, but in reality it could happen to anyone. There are 29.8 million individuals that are victims of human trafficking, 50% of them are children and will grow up in that environment and most likely will never have the chance to have a normal life. Each year about 17,500 individuals are brought into the united states and held against their will as victims of human trafficking. Females are most likely to be a victim of human trafficking because men see them as objects. A convicted human sex trafficker said “To me the girls meet a source of income, merchandise you can buy, trade or sell” they don’t care what happens to the girls as long as they get their money. Human trafficking is all round the world it affects everyone, it affects the victims most of all “I had to close my eyes so that i wouldn’t see what they were doing around me” said one victim. The United States is one of the top three points for trafficked victims. California, New York, Texas and Nevada are the top destination states within the country. These four states are at the top of the list for human trafficking because they lack the proper laws to prevent being taken. They lack the human trafficking hotline, special protections for persecuted minors, a lower burden of proof for victimized minors, and victim assistance, damages compensation, and does not lift prostitution charges from sex trafficking victims. Most states in the United States have the laws to help prevent and stop human trafficking but that doesn’t mean they work. Each state has their own version of a human trafficking law, some cover much more than the others. For example in North Dakota they have many laws such as provides some investigative tools to its law enforcement, and has a lower burden of proof for crimes victimizing minors, the North Dakota does not provide enough assistance or compensation for victims, also it doesn’t have a task force or hotline. Modern day slavery can be prevented by a simple phone call between 2011 and 2014, the NHTRC (National Human Trafficking Resource Center) received over 600 calls from educators and school officials regarding human trafficking related issues. Out of 600 calls, they found 130 cases of child trafficking. Human traffickers are the type of people that are going to promise you the world. They're going to promise you fame, promise you money, promise you things you can't even imagine of but what they say is nothing but an empty promise. They’re not going to tell you what you’re going to be doing to make that money or what type of fame you’ll be receiving "What they're doing is that they're targeting juveniles, minors that have problems or run away from home or have substance abuse, and they're just preying on them," said human trafficking expert Jorge Del Rio. "They don't care. They prey on anyone that they can to make money." You can do your part by just being educated on the topic and what to do if you notice anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, anyone can do it. We can make a big difference in the lives of those suffering by donating compassion and awareness to the cause of human trafficking. Donating time and resources to organizations already functioning in our local communities. If you just reach out your hand you could save many lives.”An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” A number of programs in Asia have already begun to address the causes of trafficking in women. One of Thailand's responses was to focus on the source of demand for trafficked services, such as the clients of underage sex workers. Through the impetus and lobbying of the National Commission on Women's Affairs (NCWA), Thailand is the first country in the region to pass laws that impose greater penalties on customers than on sellers for involvement in commercial sex with underage partners. For the essay genre i decided to cover the topic of human trafficking, this was not an easy topic. There is so much more information that i didn’t know that i’m happy i know now, human trafficking is something that i think everyone should learn about no matter what age or where you live. It could be happening in your backyard and you could never know, it’s much closer to home than people think. One of my goals for writing this essay genre paper is to get more people aware of the harsh this world’s harsh reality.
During the research part of my essay i began to notice that most states don’t have any laws against human trafficking or to help any of the victims. When the victims are taken it is most likely to be a young girls, they are worth more and they were just put on this earth to help them make money and that is their only purpose. The traffickers use them as an object’s that they can sell and reuse. My goal is to let the young girls know that it is not safe to be alone and don't trust anyone that you don’t know. Looking back at my project i believe that i did a good job showing both sides. You can see the victim's point of view also form the suspects point of view. A lot of the information was repetitive, so it made it difficult to look for different facts and information about the topic. Being able to find the information that i did made more more knowledgeable about human trafficking also more aware of how it happens, how it works, and how to help. I believe that i choose a good topic for me and i will enjoy finishing my website. |
